Don't Be Stingy - Come and Share Your House Cleaning Tips

Hi. I want to start a home~cleaning business so I can leave my FT job. I want the flexibility & income cleaning offers but how do i get started when i can't leave my day job until I have steady income from cleaning? (I'm a single mom of 2 ~ I NEED a job!) I get off work at 3 and can be at a clients home by 3:30 ~ is this too late in the day to even TRY to get started? My boys are with their Dad every other week, so i wouldn't need to be home at a certain time on the weeks I don't have them. I appreciate and adivce & suggestions you can offer. I've had a TERRIBLE year or 2 and I want some positive changes in my life now, and I'm real exicted about the prospect of this biz!

Typically, I don't like to start any job after 2:30pm. Most of my jobs require at least a two hour time frame to guarantee we can get everything done. Most clients do not expect to come home from work and find you there. However, that being said - your goal, for now, will be to find jobs that you can handle within the time period you have. Think outside the box a little. There may be an untapped market of clients - just try to find a housekeeping service or cleaner that works weekends, evenings - try to market to households with unusual schedules. You may also try providing limited services - such as bathrooms only, it's not easy to find a service that will come out to only do bathrooms - if the client can find it, it's going to cost them $$$ to have a limited service. Do you have a friend that you could team with? If you can get the right arrangement with a partner you can slowly build up a business (make sure the financial arrangement is fair and specific) and then ease your way out of your full time job. Good luck to you.
Hello, for a second I thought I was reading about myself. I was recently laid off, couldn't find a job that fit the hours that I need to deal with my 2 children. So that's when I decided to start my own cleaning business, this is something I enjoy. I prefer to clean in the morning and most of my clients appreciate the fact that I am available soooo early. You do not need ALOT of money to get started. Basically you can get the word out there that you clean residential or offices. I do both. What I did was tell anyone who would listen and the response was great. The same will happen for you. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks to both of you who replied. I may have a first houselined up for a free cleaning. I did this so I could get a reference (plus she is a chiropractor and I think she knows people with $ to spend on a cleaning service.) I also put myself on Craigslist. You have good ideas and I will let you know how I make out! Thanks again!
Good luck and do let us know how you make out.

ps. don't give away too many free cleanings!
