Keep it Clean

Don't Be Stingy - Come and Share Your House Cleaning Tips

I clean houses professionally and I like to make sure I get EVERYTHING sparkling.but one thing I haven't figured out, at the bottom of a curved door the space behind the track but on the front of the door how do I clean it?! I can't get a finger in or a toothbrush. I can just about squeeze the corner of a cloth in but that doesn't scrub it it just smears it, so any suggestions?

Hi Jennifer.. I really don't like cleaning those big walk in showers.. especially when they have been neglected for years.. U know.. the funk that builds up... the black mold...

I have found that using a commercial bleach cleaner works really well for me.. just spray scrub where you can and rinse..after several cleanings..the bleach will find its way in.. an unlodge the funk...

I have also decided to use some sort of disposable plastic baggies.. to slip on over my shoes and toss for cleaning inside of those over size showers... Its almost impossible to really clean them well without getting inside... So that's it from me..

Thanks Deborah. Those are good suggestions. Its good to know I am not the only one who finds it difficult to reach all the nooks and crannies! As for shoes, I keep a pair of cheap plastic clogs that I use for that house. So I don't have to worry about my shoes.

Thanks, I will try that.you're right, part of the challenge is time. at home I can leave things to soak but at work I don't always have that luxury. But I will try your suggestions.

I have been a housecleaner for 35+ years as my occupation and enjoy it alot. said:
Jennifer, Get yourself a brush that is round. I get mine at the hardware store or janitorial supply. They are handy for a lot of cleaning in hard to get places. The vinegar and baking soda thing might work to though I haven't tried it. I had a customer show me how to do the corners and underneath the doors with straight alcohol also, but you need to let it soak a lot and as a housecleaning serviceperson you may not have the time to get it all off at once. The brush helps to keep the gunk out of there if it has been neglected before cleaning.
1. Empty it out. Remove your shampoo bottles, and other items. Be sure to grab the bath mat and no-slip floor stickers, if you use them.
2. Begin with a rinse. Using some type of bucket, cup, watering can, rinses the walls and floor of your shower with hot water. If you have a hand held shower head, they work very well. You just want to get all the hair, dirt, and other particles down the drain and out of your way.
3. Remove mildew. You can pick up a mildew spray at any dollar store or department store. Spray the walls of your shower with it, let it sit, and wipe or rinse.
4. Remove hard water spots. Mix equal parts hot water and vinegar together in a bucket. Scrub the hard-water spots well. This works great for shining the lever and knobs in your shower.
5. Clean your shower door or curtain. Glass shower doors are usually cleaned best with white vinegar, but there are many other options
6. Scrub shower tiles. Run very hot shower water to create steam. This will help loosen the dirt clinging to the tiles. Scrub well with a mixture of ammonia, vinegar, and baking soda. Use an old toothbrush for between the tiles.
