Don't Be Stingy - Come and Share Your House Cleaning Tips

I was given a piece of paper today of some things that I had around that I could use instead chemicals and rags. After trying some of them, I was amazed! They not only work but the really help me cut my cleaning in half! Because I clean about 10 hours a day, I'm that particular on my house cleaning. Here is some cleaning tips:

Use a fabric Softners on Mirrors so next time you take a shower your mirrors would fog up. TRY IT
To keep sponge lasting longer, throw them in the dishwasher, they will get cleaned, disinfected, BUT they last longer.
Instead of using bar soaps use body wash it will elimate some of they soap scum from your glass shower door
Got a cigarette burn on a wood surface? Put toothpaste on a wet Scott paper towel rub gentle in circular motion until the burnt mark is gone. Clean up with the remaining wet towel and bam the cigarette burn is gone!
Use a piece of bread to pick up shard of broken glass after you sweep up the big pieces up.
If got a ordor in the refrigerator, wet a piece of newspaper, place it in the refrigerator. When the paper dries throw it away and your ordors are gone!
Do you want your clothes brighter? Put 1/2 cup of baking soda in whites makes the brighest you ever seen, do that to your color clothes freshens them up! (this will happen every week just NOT once).

I hope this helps you guys out there. if you got some great tips from family, co-workers please add..

Here's some more I found interesting/useful:

I like this one about the sink. Sinks freak me out because they tend to get so full of bacteria.

Sanitize the Sink: It’s hard to believe, but your dirty kitchen sink has more bacteria than your toilet seat. Use a product labeled as an EPA-registered disinfectant, or make your own. To disinfect, clean your sink with soap and water first, then spray a mist of vinegar followed by a mist of hydrogen peroxide, and let air-dry. (Don’t mix the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide together—spray one after the other.) If your sink is stainless steel, make it sparkle afterward by putting a few drops of mineral oil on a soft cloth and buffing. This prevents water buildup, which deters mold and keeps the sink looking clean longer.

Make Doors Shine: Rubbing a teaspoon of lemon oil on glass shower doors twice a month causes water to bead up and roll off. (I bought my lemon oil at a natural food/health store. The bottles are tiny but they last a long time.)

I use tennis balls in my dryer cycle of the laundry. They do the same job as those expensive dryer balls. They just bounce around in there and force clothes to separate from each other in the dryer, so you don't get that clump of still-damp clothes all stuck together that you sometimes get.

Crumpled up newspapers (ONLY black and white) work GREAT for shining windows and mirrors. this is what our mothers used to use before paper towels. It's free too!

There you go. Hopefully some of this stuff is useful to you.

Hi Robert

Wow! You really like cleaning! Thanks for sharing your tips. I admire that you are looking for/open to chemical-free cleaning... I am making a big move to getting rid of all of my chemical cleaning products, so that I can replace them with products that are better for my lungs and skin. It's hard letting go of my favourite one! :(

Anyway, I have some cleaning tips that are interesting.... Here's one of my fave's.

CLEANING USES FOR WD-40 THAT YOU NEVER KNEW WERE POSSIBLE!

Protects silver from tarnishing.
Removes road tar and grime from cars.
Loosens stubborn zippers.
Untangles jewelry chains.
Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.
Keeps scissors working smoothly.
Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.
Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.
Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.
Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.
Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).
Removes all traces of duct tape.
Florida's favorite use is: "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers."
If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start.
It removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks. Wash off after use.
Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!
