WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THIS PAPER?!?!?!
This week we will be talking about PAPER! Paper is one of the BIGGEST clutter makers in our home. We save paper or lay it on the kitchen counter for a variety of reasons. Here are a few of those reasons:
1. Procrastination-we procrastinate taking the steps needed
2. Not having designated areas for the wide variety of papers we get
3. Thinking “I need to take this with me next time I run errands”
4. Needing to give mail or other papers to someone else in the household
5. This paper needs an action so you set it out to remind you
Keeping papers organized and cleared out is simple and only takes a few minutes—if you take the necessary steps the minute it comes into your house.
Today we are starting simple, so here goes!!!
There are THREE things you need to do first:
1. Get a simple filing system
2. Get a bill payment system
3. Get a Mail Sorting Station/Individual Baskets-somewhere that EVERYONE has their individual spot
Lets start with the most simple step:
Mail Sorting Station
Each person needs their own spot for mail, papers, etc. If you have a designated slot for everyone, then when the mail comes, there is no reason to leave any of it laying on the kitchen island! EVERYTHING will be put away as soon as the mail comes.
As you go through the mail, sort it. Throw away the junk mail, put each individuals items in their slot and put bills in the BILL PAYING POWER JOURNAL! (We will be posting more details of the bill paying journal soon).
That took less than 1 minute and now the mail is all sorted and nothing is laying around! Wasn’t that easy?
Where is your mail sorting station located in your home?
